I have just got back from Memphis. My sister, Paula, Pat and myself had a very enjoyable time out there. We visited Gracelands and Sun Studio's. We wanted to go on the Riverboat but due to adverse weather conditions (snow) we didn't...we also didn't do Beale St due to adverse walking conditions (Pat and her wheelchair and air boot) BUT we did manage to do a tad bit of shopping...be it 35 miles to one shopping mall and over the state border into Mississippi for another shopping mall...as you can probably tell we weren't near any shops. Still a good time was had by all...pics to follow.

Christine's BIG Birthday Bash: Went off with a BANG!!! A great night was had by all. The venue, Bourne Hall, was fantastic, the catering was very, very good and what can I say about the DJ for the evening!!!!! HAPPY BIRTDAY CHRIS...I will post Pics in the New Year.

LINEDANCE WEEKEND BRACKLESHAM BAY: What a CRACKING weekend we all had, especially Pat, who decided to fall down the stairs, the day after her birthday (she stills says she wasn't drunk!), and break her ankle. Joking aside we all wish her a speedy recovery (especially me as she is getting quite heavy pushing round in a wheelchair). Wishing a speedy recovery to Brenda who recently had a hip replacement. We hope to see her back on the dance floor in the not so distant future.

NEW CLASS: I have been asked to start a linedance class at another branch of the British Legion in Worcester Park on the 2nd Thursday of every month. So if you know of any one who would like a fun night out learning easy fun dances...then tell them to come along. If you are not a member of the Legion you need to sign in on the door and pay 50p. The next session is Thursday 8th Oct from 8pm to 10pm'ish...price is £3.50 (cheap as chips)...Worcester Park British Legion, Central Rd, Worcester Park, KT4 8EG. Drinks must be purchased from the bar.

Kelly has sent her regards to all the wednesday evening dancers...she hasn't forgotten us...she has been busy settling into her new job and hopes to be back in the next couple of weeks.

A great time was had by all on our linedance weekend to the IOW. We had Plain Loco on the friday evening and Natalie saturday evening both acts were GREAT to both watch and dance too. Michelle Risley taught 4 dances on the saturday morning and Peter and myself taught on the Sunday morning. We couldn't have had a better time, it was perfect we had the sun great live acts and even if I do say so myself the teaching was pretty good as well!!! See pics below.

MARCH 2011

CLASS CLOSURE: No class on friday 25th March at the Irish Club due to HotShots & Sundowners Linedance Weekend on the IOW.

BACK TO NORMAL: Just this minute hotfooted it back from Vegas...ALL CLASSES BACK TO NORMAL FROM WED 2nd MARCH...Pat and I had a GREAT time...flew over the Grand Canyon in a helicopter...we choose the only day that it rained but hey it was still an AWESOME sight to see....we landed had champagne and a picnic...but was it cold!!! Got back to the Strip and the sun had come out. We also went to see the show Cirque de Soleliel Mystere...it was brilliant, you must go and see it. The hotels are out of this world, it's like being in a grown up 'Disneyland'...we had a bit of a flutter on the slots (didn't win we have both come back)...the only winner is the machines and the casino's...see below for pics.

On a sad note...condolances to Teresa, whose husband passed away over the Christmas period...we are all thinking of you.

LOCKED OUT: Locked out of the hall and nowhere else to dance...turned up at my hall tuesday night...building open...hall door locked...one other group in the building having a committee meeting...to be informed that the caretaker has said that the "linedancers are not coming in tonight" (don't know where he got that from)..caretaker not answering his phone. Still that didn't stop us...we danced in the corridor...plugged equipment into the electric sockets in the small kitchenette and off we went...dancing very quietly (so as not to disturb the committee meeting)...the corridor isn't very wide and it is a funny shape but we had 'fun'.

90th BIRTHDAY: My mum is 90 years young on monday (she still comes to three of my classes)...my sister, brother and myself held a surprise birthday party for her on friday evening...in her words she said that she felt like "royalty" and in my words she was totally "gobsmacked" by it all. Everyone had a great time and my mum was thrilled to bits and can't get over the fact that all her friends from the different clubs she belongs to were there along with family. This cheered her up as she had an accident last monday...4 days before the party and was feeling very sorry for herself...but with a lot of foundation and the miracle the dentist performed...all turned out well in the end and a GREAT time was had by all.

LIVEWIRE: If you haven't seen this duo perform then you must make it a must for 2011...they are a boy/girl linedance duo who sing a mixture of both old and new songs and your requests. They were brilliant at the Sunray last saturday, every one had a fantastic time regardless of whether they were dancers or non dancers.

CHRISTMAS SOCIAL: A GREAT BIG 'THANK YOU' to the six hardy linedancers that managed to trundle their way through the snow and ice to our Christmas Social...the snowy six were Chris, Frances, Jean W, Lin, Little Pauline and Val. We had a very intimate social with lots of dancing and nibbles. If you haven't been to one of our socials then do come and give it a try for 2011...we are a very friendly bunch of dancers...all dances played are from your requests.

Six turned up for Monday's linedancing at the Sunray, in the snowstorm. What a hardy bunch some of us are...Brenda, Chris, Judy, Marion, Pauline and Zan. Lets hope that the snow lets up a bit over the weekend...see you all there after Christmas on the 27th to dance away those 'Christmas blues'.

Just got back from America...if you think it's cold here you don't know cold...cold is where it hurts your whole head...and I really do mean hurts...we made it walking (about 5 minutes) to Denny's Diner but had to get a cab back...temperature was minus 20 fahreinheit. I was sad to hear that, Nan, one of my wednesday afternoon dancers had passed away after a short illness. All the class send kind thoughts to her close family and friends.

As you know I went to Portugal to take part in 'The Golden Age Festival' with a fitness display team that I am part of....we are a national display team that take part in various events...recently appearing at the Royal Albert Hall (three times this year). I don't very often 'blow my own trumpet' but I thought you might like to see the letter we received from the Gymnastics Federation of Portugal who were the the organisers of the Portugal Festival and the video footage of the team in action.

"Thank you for actively making part of the 2010 Golden Age Gym Festival held in Portimao from October 3rd to 8th 2010.

We have registered with delight your Group presence and was without doubt one of the top exhibitions in this Festival. Thank you!

Your work together with the other 67 Festival participant groups has resulted in a positive contribution for the development of the “+50 gymnast” framework within our borders and we strongly believe that it will surely cause some impact in many other National Federations – specially in their perspective of the active aging trough gymnastics.

A big THANK YOU to everybody for all my birthday cards, flowers, choccies and gift cards. I had a very poignant birthday as I, along with a group of friends/colleagues from 'my proper job' were made redundant and yesterday (on my birthday' we had a farewell party...it was very sad after being there for 29 years. I couldn't get into the swing of my birthday so I opened my cards this afternoon....again thank you...some where very cheeky and they did make me laugh.

There was a church 'Fiesta'/bar-b-que at St James at the end of July and the church was decorated with floral arrangements depicting the various groups that use the hall. Annabell, one of our monday linedancers, is a dab hand at floral displays etc and did an arrangement called 'Linedancing' (as you can see in the picture above all the flowers and stems are in a straight line...just as we are when we dance!!!.

A great time was had by all on our linedance weekend to the IOW. Alan Gregory was on top form, don't forget he is live at the Sunray on 15th May and 23rd Oct 2010, also appearing was 4 Card Trick with front man Glenn Rogers. There was plenty of variety to keep everyone happy...good food, fine weather, brilliant teaching, great acts, fancy dress (loved the drag Queens) and a raffle in aid of Spina Bifida...total raised for the raffle was £336. PLAIN LOCO at the Sunray: It was a brilliant evening...full house...dancers from Sundowners, Hotshots and elsewhere...Plain Loco were on top form as usual...a full floor for all the evening dancing to both new and old dances...they will be one of the acts appearing at our next linedance weekend away in 2011 along with Natalie and guest choreographer Michelle Risley from Peace train.

DOUG: Doug had his hip replacement op last friday and is OK...it's going to be quiet till he is back on the scene...make the most of it!!!!!!!!!!! Joking aside...everyone sends best wishes and a quick and speedy recovery. Doug update: Doug is out of hospital (they couldn't 'stand' his quips any more) and doing well.

NEW CLASS - SURBITON BRITISH LEGION: first class went really well....lots turned up for the beginners session then stayed for the rest of the session where I played from the dancers requests...a mixture of old and new dances...as none new 'Chica Boom' I taught that...they also wanted to revisit 'Wave On Wave'...a great time was had by all...just a reminder if you are coming you must purchase all drinks from the bar.

NAPPY EVENTS: Congratulations to Emma who is expecting her first in the summer. I'm also granny again my daughter gave birth on the 31st to a little girl weighing in at 7lb 8ozs...yet to be named but known as 'piglet'...UPDATE: now named Lilly Nicolle but will always be known as 'piglet'...poor child!!!

HANDY HINT: Have you smelly dance trainers? If the answer is yes try the following...sprinkle bi carb of soda inside the trainers leave for 24 hours...hoover them out and repeat the process then spray the insides with fabreeze...this should get rid of the smell.

NAPPY EVENTS: Congratulations to two new dancing grannies. Over the weekend Marion become Granny again to a baby boy, Dexter, weighing in at a whopping 8lb 8ozs and to Linda a baby girl, weighing a dainty 5lb 8ozs.

Went shopping to the big Tesco's at New Malden...minding my own business...as one does...and you wouldn't guess who I bumped into???...Betty and Kenny (all the way from Scotland) and no they were not doing there weekly shop!!! Down for a few days to do some DIY for their daughter...but they are going to have a late start on friday so they can come to class.

Which reminds me I have just been contacted to say that we have to finish at midday as there is a funeral and they are having the wake at the Irish Club...so just one price for the session £3.50.

Just returned from a brilliant Kate Sala linedance weekend in Holland. Also teaching were two of Hollands top instructors Ria Vos and Daan Geelen. It was a very small event, which was so friendly, with only 14 resident dancers for the whole weekend and about 30 to 40 day tickets. We were lucky enough to have included in our package personal guided tours. One to a little harbour village, Volendam, and the other was to Amsterdam where we went on a canal trip and had a tour through the red light district...which was quite an eye opener. When we got back Pat sat in the window of our hotel but she didn't have takers except for the frogs, which, at night they sounded like ducks quacking!!! The dancing was good as well...we learnt some good dances...there were dancers from England, Holland and Denmark.

It is great seeing Doug back on the floor again after so long ... keep it up Doug ... we have missed your heckling...I had forgotten how peaceful it was without you (only joking) I wouldn't have it any other way!!!

Best wishes goes to Nan who fell off a wall and broke both arms whilst gardening...what we want to know is why was she on the wall in the first place...did Nan think she could fly...was she away with the fairies!!!

MEDICAL CORNER: If you have soft corns between the toes to relieve pressure and rubbing then I can recomend 'ProFoot Softgel' multi-use gel padding with self adhesive backing that you cut to size they also do tubing which you can slip over the toe. I brought mine in Tesco's.

It was lovely to see Marion back in action again, looking so well. Also wishing a speedy recovery to Denise, who has fractured a bone in her foot and to Rose, who was bitten by a dog.

It was also a nice shock last week to see Betty and Kenny, our Scottish dancers just turn up. They came down a day earlier so they could attend Hotshots friday morning class before they flew out to Gran Canaria on holiday...thats what you call dedicated linedancers.

A big thank you to Kim, who brought in spring rolls and Chinese cookies to celebrate Chinese New Year.
